All Growed Up! Birthdays, August 2011

Narrated by Alicia Stevens

I called my mom the other day and told her that Kyle and I were coming over to share some news. I wanted to tell my parents and grandma about the baby before anyone else. When we arrived, we gathered in the living room where my folks just sat and stared waiting for one of us to start talking.

I was extremely nervous for some reason. I don't know what Kyle was feeling but he sat very still with a stupid smile on his face. After a minute or 2 of silence, I finally blurted out that I was pregnant and held my breath while I waited for their reaction.

Mom's eyes seemed to glaze over while dad looked confused... or scared. I'm still not sure which.

Grandma, on the other hand, was ecstatic. This will be her first great-grandchild and she could hardly hide her excitement.

The way my parents looked at her, they probably wished she would have hidden her enthusiasm a little better. The news didn't settle with them nearly as well as it did with her.

They were really concerned, actually. Dad started to grill us, asking if we were sure I was pregnant, if we were ready to be parents at such a young age, if we had enough money to support ourselves and a baby, and it went on and on. It's not like we were planning to become parents so soon. But we have each other, we both have jobs and we believe we'll be able to handle the baby when he or she arrives. And we hoped they'd be there for support, too.

After talking for a while, dad eased up a bit. Once he realized that we sort of have things figured out, he started to warm up to the idea of being a grandfather. He loves children.

Mom was a little surprised dad accepted it so quickly but it did seem to calm her down. I think it's going to take a little while for her to get used to the idea that she'll be a grandmother sooner than she might've hoped.

It was nice when they finally congratulated and hugged us. Mom and I hugged for what seemed like hours. I don't think she wanted to let go.

Earlier today, we had our appointment at the medical center for my ultrasound. Dad and grandma were at work so mom came to show her support. We were so glad she came.

Dr. Robinson performed the ultrasound and informed us that our babies are healthy. I think my whole body went numb.

You could have knocked any one of us over with a feather at that moment. So next February, Kyle and I will be expecting twins!

Notes:
-I knew that Alicia was having twins as soon as she conceived but I was keeping it a surprise. They wouldn't have known at that time anyway. It was hard keeping quiet and making sure I didn't refer to their "babies" when talking about them in other places.
-I'm actually really surprised and excited that they're having twins! Yes, Alicia's younger siblings Darren and Dana are twins but I made them in CAS. So it's cool that twins run in the family now. And so you know, she didn't have time to eat cheesecake either because as soon as the lullaby indicating she was pregnant ended, I checked how many babies there were. I didn't even wait until their clothes were back on before I checked lol. So they're definitely natural twins! I have such cute names picked out. I can't wait to use them.
-The next pregnancy updates most likely won't be this long. I felt that since this is my first pregnancy since I started the blog, and there's only 1 family to update, I could make it a little longer.
-On a totally unrelated note, I'm starting a business directory like I've seen some other bloggers doing. I'll update with pics of the businesses as I play them. You'll find it here and in the links to the right.

  1. Twins-yay! That's a handful to handle, but twins are so exciting.

  2. Thanks Starr! Yea I can't wait to play twins. It should be interesting for these 2!

By the way, I moved them into your Grayson Hill Brownstones, the 3-bedroom apartment, and love it! If I get a chance, I'll post some pics of it in use in your thread at N99. Or maybe I'll wait until I decorate the nurseries.

  3. Oh my gosh, your first post-blog birth and it'll be twins! That's so exciting but a little overwhelming for everyone involved, I'm sure!

I love your posing in this update, especially the pic of Kyle and Alicia that you showed at N99 and the last pic! Great job!

  4. I'm glad that they have her family's support. That is always awesome! And twins! Man, they are going to have their hands full!

  5. Carla, thanks! Yea these 2 are really trying to challenge me, giving me twins right now! But depending on how their genes blend, I might be able to forgive them :).

And thanks for the compliments on my pics. I spent a lot of time playing around with my pose boxes and overlays trying to get their expressions just right for those 2 pics and glad it didn't go unnoticed :D!

GB, thank you! I'm glad Alicia's parents came around, too, but I think Jeanette might need a *little* more time. Edna and Glen are both family sims so I see them being more accepting of it in the end. And yes! The twins are an unexpected surprise for them. They were ready for 1 baby to arrive, but now they have to plan for another! Fun times! :p

  6. The looks on eveyone's faces on that last picture were actually kind of funny, although I can imagine them kind of panicking at that point!!

I'm excited they are having twins! They are such pretty sims and I'm sure their children will be too!

  7. Wow, twins! I'm glad her parents came around so quickly because Alicia and Kyle are going to need all the support they can get. It must be quite a shock to hear you're having twins after you've kind of gotten used to the idea of having one baby.

I like that first picture of her parents after they told them she's pregnant. Her mom looks so stunned.

  8. Tanja, thanks for reading! My husband and I do that "panic" smile that Alicia's doing in the last pic when something doesn't go right and I just had to find a way to do that for this update. I sure would have a panic smile if I found out I was having twins. None of them even thought twins would be a possibility. I sure didn't! I know it's a lot for them to swallow right now, though. They'll have 2 kids by the time they are 20 years old!

Sari, thanks for reading! Yes I'm glad that her family eased up, too. I couldn't imagine having to raise twins without support from my family and I know Alicia and Kyle wouldn't know what to do without their support, either. This family is very close so even though it's a surprise and not something they'd want for Alicia right now, they will be there for Alicia, Kyle and the babies.

Glad you like the pic of Alicia's mom looking stunned after she heard the news. I know that face all too well from my mother and I'm sure I've done it plenty of times myself lol.

  13. Oh, I love Jeanette's expressions all over this post! *lol* It's priceless! Congratulations to the future parents for the twins!
(I tried to let a comment yesterday, about the anniversary of the bakery, but it didn't seem to have worked...)

  14. Sandy, thanks so much for reading and commenting! I'm glad you liked Jeanette's expressions. :) I had fun posing them all. I can't wait to get back to them.

Sorry that your comment didn't post yesterday (but I see you new one now). Blogger.com has many issues with comments, I'm learning. :(
