Round 5: June 2012 (Summer)
next update / last update
Narrated by Kyle
Around the time the twins were born, I started a new job in an office downtown as an executive assistant. It wasn't a huge bump in pay but there's more of a future working here than the odd jobs I was working before. Job hopping is something I just can't do anymore.
Things are going well so far. I did so well my first few months that they thought I'd do better in sales and promoted me.
Since I don't have a college degree yet, this is as far as I can go with this company. But if I do well in sales, I can make enough money to start taking a few classes at UCC. Hopefully I can start doing that within the next year or so.
Alicia started working again, too, just last week. She's working at her mom's clothing store again but only a few hours in the evening.
It's just enough to get her out of the house because she gets a little stir crazy being at home all day with the girls.
It’s really hard to believe that Ava and Shae are already 4 months old. I’m really enjoying being a dad but it isn't without its challenges.
Getting used to caring for 2 babies was a major adjustment at first. Luckily the girls are in sync with each other, so if one needs their diaper changed, the other will, too.
When one is hungry, so is the other one.
And when one cries, you bet that the other one will start, too. Shae seems to be the fussier twin and will usually be the first one to cry when she hasn’t been held for a while.
Sometimes it’s easy to cheer her up but sometimes they’re both so cranky that I don’t know what to do.
It's too early to be sure but Shae will probably need a lot of attention when she gets older.
We're working on a sleep schedule for them but they're not sleeping through the night yet. It'll probably be another few months before we can get a full night's sleep again.
Since Alicia's home during the day with them, I try to help out when they wake up at night. But it's hard when I have to work the next day and on those days, I tend to nod off whenever I sit still long enough.
I don't know how Alicia does it. I know she has to be just as tired but she never shows it.
Alicia's family has really been helping out, which is a relief. It gives Alicia a much needed break during the day to either run errands or just sleep.
Edna always prepares a couple of meals for us to have on hand when we need them. We definitely wouldn't be eating so well if it wasn't for her.
Even Darren and Dana have been visiting regularly. They really fawn over Ava and Shae. They're probably excited to have more twins in the family.
Darren and Dana don't come over just to see the babies, though. They chip in just as much.
It's always nice after the family comes over to help. After we put the girls down, we have a nice clean house and get a few moments to enjoy each other.
We don't get a ton of quiet time together now that the girls are here so we sneak it in whenever we can.
But the good definitely outweighs the bad. Even though they came as a surprise, I couldn't imagine being without them.
Notes:
-Yay an update! I’m still not back to my normal routine of playing but I thought I’d finally stop procrastinating and get this update written and posted. These past few months have flown by and I’m trying to get back in the groove. So posts still may be few and far between.
-I was having such a hard time getting these 2 to pose with the babies that I just said "screw it" and went with the pic at the beginning. I think it looks sweet anyway with Alicia smiling up at Kyle.
-That’s the end of the round! I’ll have a couple more posts going up soonish so at least there will be something new to read. Hopefully I can find some time to play so I can start posting again.
I think we can all understand real life interceding and messing up simming time :). How cute that the whole family helps out with the twins, I'm sure that's a relief for Kyle and Alicia. I can't wait to see the twins age up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and commenting! I'm glad folks understand how real life can get in the way sometimes but I still feel bad lol. When I was posting this update, I realized that it was a little over 1 real life year since I posted Alica and Kyle's last update! At this rate, I'll be 60 years old before any of these sims will even age up to elders! LOL
DeleteAs for the update, yes! Kyle and Alicia are very grateful to have everyone so willing to help them out now. Free babysitters are always the best. I can't wait for the twins to age up, either! They're going to be so cute!
Those two have a lot of help, which is awesome. Raising infant twins without help nearby would seem like it would be so hard.
ReplyDeleteStarr, thanks for reading and commenting! I can't even imagine how hard it'd be to raise twins let alone without any help. They are definitely lucky Alicia has such a devoted family and that there are so many of them to help!
DeleteI love the family portrait - so sweet! Sometimes Sims pose themselves better than you can, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that Kyle is settling in with his job now and that he has a possible plan for the future. It would be great if he could start classes, so he can make a little more money.
It's great to see Alicia's family are helping out so much. That's got to make all the difference, especially for such young parents. I see Kyle is still suffering from the effects of work on top of twin baby daughters at home though!
Still getting used to the new blogger commenting system! lol
DeleteThanks for reading and commenting! Glad you like the portrait and I actually liked it more after my slight annoyance went away lol.
Kyle definitely wants to keep moving up which is good. Sometimes lazy sims are unmotivated (like Davina) but maybe he's something else (I've been playing around with assigning traits). Hopefully I can get them started the next time I play them or after the girls age up.
Yea, Alicia's family is a big help but unfortunately for Kyle, they don't provide 'round the clock care! LOL. Every little bit helps, though!
Aww, the twins are so cute. I can't wait to see what they look like as toddlers. I can believe how tired they are having to take care of twins and work during the days. It's tough!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! I'm really anxious to see how the twins look, too. Kyle and Alicia don't have any exaggerated features so they should mix well. I wonder who the twins will look more like. :)
DeleteAnd yes! I know they are exhausted! Taking care of twin babies isn't what I would what to do at 20. But you work with the hand you're dealt!
The twins are adorable.I love their outfits by the way. It's great that the family help out with the twins.I just started a new neighborhood and my families don't have many relatives yet so they are constantly fatigued from watching toddlers and babies. Is Shae taking college courses or is she just working for her mom? I just noticed Dana and Darren are 17; will they be heading off to UCC next year?I'm glad you're updating again even if the post are spaced out a bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! Glad you like the baby outfits! I went a little overboard and downloaded a ton of them! :) Alicia and Kyle are very lucky to have Alicia's family helping them out. My hood isn't that large either and this is the first household where my sims had family members outside of the household (not including my uni students). They were doing ok without the family's help but Shae and Ava seem to be easy babies.
DeleteNo, Alicia isn't taking any college courses. She is just working for her mom now and I have plans for her to take over the boutique when her mom is done with it. I've also been thinking about getting Alicia into the Fashion Design career. But that had to wait!
Yup, Dana and Darren will be of age to head to UCC next year. Darren will most definitely go. Dana might get in but not sure if she'll go or not yet. She's not very career driven, so I'll have to figure out what I want to do with her. I already have one unmotivated Family sim at UCC (Davina) and I'm not sure if I want to deal with another one lol.
The twins sure are cute. Kyle and Alicia seem to be adjusting well for being so young. I hope that once the girls get older they can get on back on track.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading! Yea, Kyle and Alicia are doing pretty well with the twins. We'll see how they are when they're toddlers. Babies just lay there but toddlers can crawl and get into way more things! ;)
DeleteKyle does seem to have a plan so hopefully things go their way. No more oops babies!
Loved this update and seeing how Alicia and kyle are adjusting to the girls. I love their place and nursery, super cute for this little family. How great that Kyle is doing so well with his work, it'd be great if he could do the lasses and make a real success story for himself.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! It was nice to catch up with this little family finally. The twins are very easy for them, luckily. But its definitely challenging. I hope Kyle can make a success story for himself too. He's pretty motivated right now :).
